Module 5: Maintenance, Care & Storage

Unit 1 of 9

Daily Maintenance - After Every Use

Why Immediate Maintenance Matters

Cleaning while equipment is still wet prevents:

  • Residue from drying and hardening
  • Chemical corrosion of components
  • Bacterial/mold growth
  • Equipment damage
  • Reduced performance

Time investment: 10-15 minutes now saves hours of problems later.

Immediate Actions

Step 1: Clear Vacuum Hose

  1. Keep vacuum motor RUNNING
  2. Lift vacuum hose vertically as high as possible
  3. Hold for 10-15 seconds
  4. Gravity drains material into bucket
  5. Motor clears remaining liquid
  6. Switch OFF motor

Why: Prevents material drying in hose, maintains flexibility, avoids blockages.

Step 2: Rinse All Hand Tools

What to rinse:

  • Rotary floor tools
  • Edging tools
  • All attachments used

How to rinse:

  1. Use fresh water immediately
  2. Spray inside and outside thoroughly
  3. Flush through nozzles
  4. Ensure NO chemical residue remains
  5. Pay attention to crevices and connections

Why critical: Chemical residue corrodes metal, damages seals, clogs nozzles, shortens tool life dramatically.

NEVER leave chemical solution in tools - even overnight causes damage.

Step 3: Drain All Water

  1. Hold tools upside down
  2. Shake out excess water
  3. Let gravity drain completely
  4. Prevents freezing damage (cold climates)
  5. Prevents stagnant water issues

Step 4: Empty Bucket

  1. Pour out remaining water
  2. Dispose waste properly (follow local regulations)
  3. If chemicals used, follow chemical disposal rules
  4. Empty trash basket of debris

Step 5: Quick Clean

  1. Rinse bucket with clean water
  2. Clean separator components in mild detergent
  3. Remove sticky residues
  4. Quick wipe of exterior

Step 6: Follow Finishing Procedures

Based on what was used:

  • Pump used: Complete Pump Finishing Procedure (below)
  • Vacuum used: Complete Vacuum Finishing Procedure (below)
  • Both used (recycling mode): Complete BOTH procedures
